Top 6 Reasons to Choose a Cold Pressed Juice Machine

What is a Cold Pressed Juice Machine

A cold pressed juice machine is simply as machine that uses a cold press method of extraction for juicing fresh fruits and vegetables.

Cold pressed juice machines are often referred to as cold press juicers, masticating juicers, slow juicers or triturating juicers and are manufactured by several different companies. Another type of juicer that is common are centrifugal juicers, these types of juicers differ from cold pressed juice machines in many ways and are considered to be inferior by most expert juicers.

Why is a Cold Pressed Juice Machine Better for Juicing

Better Juice

Cold pressed juice machines use a low speed auger which creates a masticating process for juicing fresh fruits and vegetables. This slow speed masticating process ensures that virtually all of the nutrients, vitamins and beneficial enzymes are retained from the fresh fruits and veggies that you juice.

On the other hand, a centrifugal juicer uses a blade spinning at high speeds to separate the juice from the flesh of the produce you juice. This method of extraction creates both heat and oxygen which creates oxidation and kills of many of the nutrients and enzymes from the raw fruits and vegetables.

More Juice

A cold pressed juice machine, because of its juice extraction process, is going to produce significantly more juice from the same amount of produce when compared to centrifugal juicers. This means that over time you are going to save a considerable amount of money on the fresh fruits and vegetables you need to purchase for your juicing lifestyle.

Cold Pressed Juice Machine vs Centrifugal Juicer

Longer Lasting Juice

Because of the slow masticating process used by a cold pressed juice machine, the juice they extract does not become oxidized like the juice from a centrifugal juicer. This means that you can store the juice you make for a longer time. Typically, with a centrifugal juicer you can only store your juice for about 24 hours. With a cold press slow juicer you can often store your juice for up to 72 hours. This means you will spend a lot less time making juice.

Keep in mind that no matter what type of juicer you are using, centrifugal or cold press, to get the maximum health benefits from your juice you should drink it right away. The longer your juice sits in the refrigerator the more your juice loses nutrients, vitamins and beneficial enzymes.

Quieter to Operate

A cold pressed juice machine, because of their low speed operation, is much, much quieter than a centrifugal juicing machine. This may not seem like an important factor however if your normal juicing routine includes juicing in the early morning hours you may find that a centrifugal juicer will wake the whole house up, on the other hand you can watch (and listen to) the morning news if you are using a cold press juicer.

Better at Juicing Leafy Greens

Best Juicer for Leafy Greens

Almost all cold press juice machines are going to do a much better job of juicing leafy greens than a centrifugal juicer. Although some cold press juicers do a better job with leafy greens than others, they will most always out perform a centrifugal juicer. Wheat-grass in particular can be difficult to juice, so much so that they actually have juicers made specifically for wheat-grass.

If you are serious about juicing and getting all of the health benefits of juicing then leafy greens should be a big part of your juicing routine, owning a slow press masticating juicer is a must.

Can Process Different Foods

Many cold pressed juice machines can double as a food processor, at least to some extent. You will find many different brands and models of cold press juicers that can make foods such as pasta, rice cakes, sorbet, nut butters and baby foods.

This may not be a benefit if all you are looking for is a juicer however if you are doing more than juicing as part of a healthy diet then the ability to make other healthy foods is considerably valuable.

Masticating Cold Pressed Juice Machine

Centrifugal Juicers Aren’t All Bad

Wide Mouth Feeding Chute

A centrifugal juicer does have a few good upsides that most masticating juicers don’t have. First is the ability to juice larger pieces of fruits and vegetables. Most centrifugal juicers have a wide mouth feeding chute which means you do not have to cut all of your produce into small pieces, in fact many fruits and vegetables can be juiced whole.

Most slow press juicers have a much smaller feeding chute which means your produce has to be cut into smaller pieces. This can add a significant amount of time to your juicing process.

Faster Juice Extraction

When it comes to the time it actually takes for the juicing process you will find that a centrifugal juicer is going to be much faster than a cold press juice machine. Because of the high speed blades, centrifugal juicers make quick work of the produce you are juicing. As with having a wide mouth feeding chute, this can save you a significant amount of time when it comes to your juicing routine.

Easier to Clean

A centrifugal juicer is typically going to be easier to clean. They will also be easier to assemble and disassemble. A part of the reason for this is the added features that many cold pressed juicers have for example the ability to process other foods.

This will usually mean more parts and a more complicated machine to disassemble, clean and reassemble.

Less Expensive

Although you will find a few centrifugal juicer models these days that will run in the $200 – $350 price range, typically you will find that you can get a good quality centrifugal juicer for far less than the price of a good quality cold press masticating juicer.

I say good quality because there are a few cheap cold press juicers on the market today, however, these  cheap juicers are not going to perform as they should and will usually not be as good at juicing leafy greens as a more expensive cold press juicer will.

A Cold Pressed Juice Machine is the Right Choice

I firmly believe that a cold pressed juice machine is the best juicer to own, however, with that being said, a centrifugal juicer does have a few benefits and will most often cost less. If you are on a budget or have little time to spend juicing then this might be the right type of juicer for you.

If you are serious about getting the most health benefits from juicing, have the money to spend (remember that you will save money on produce over time) and aren’t to concerned about the longer time it takes to juice then I highly recommend that you invest in a quality cold press juicer.
