Do Cheap Juicers Work
Are Cheap Juicers Worth It?
Many people today are considering cheap juicers as a way of making their own fresh and healthy juice at home. With so many different inexpensive juicers being manufactured and sold these days the question has been raised “do cheap juicers work”?
The truth is that if all you are looking for is a fresh glass of orange juice in the morning then a cheap juicer will work just fine. However, if you are looking to get all of the health benefits of juicing then you really need to consider a quality juicer.
How Expensive are Juicers
When it comes to the cost of juicers there can be a big difference in price between cheap juicers and juicers that actually get all of the vitamins and nutrients out of the fresh fruits and vegetables that you juice.
Typically the least expensive type of juicer you can get is a centrifugal juicer. This type of juicer uses a blade spinning at high speed to separate the juice from the flesh of the produce. You can find centrifugal juicers for as little as $40-$50 and they go up to as much as $400, of course as with most products the more you are willing to spend the better the product you are going to get.
How Much are Good Juicers
The best juicers are cold press juicers. This type of juicer, also known as a masticating juicer, uses a slow speed auger to separate the juice from the flesh of the fruits and vegetables. It is in part this slow speed that helps make the juice from a masticating cold press juicer so much more healthy when compared to a centrifugal juicer.
Not only is the juice from a cold press juicer more healthy but they produce more juice from the same amount of fruits and vegetables. Additionally the juice will be less frothy and will be able to be stored for much longer.
Of course the cost of a cold press juicer is quite a bit more expensive then the cheapest centrifugal juicers. You can expect to pay roughly $200 – $250 for a lower end masticating juicer and as much as $1500 for the best cold press juicers.
Do Centrifugal Juicers Destroy Nutrients
Although centrifugal juicers have gotten better over the years and the higher end models do operate at slower speeds then cheap juicers, the fact is that centrifugal juicers do destroy some of the nutrients you are trying to juice out of your produce.
The biggest reason for this is that the high speed blades that are used create heat and introduce more oxygen into the juice. This causes oxidation and the breaking down of nutrients.
Do Masticating Juicers Remove Fiber
Fiber is something that we all need in our diet but unfortunately this fiber can make it difficult for our bodies to absorb all the vitamins and nutrients from the fruits and vegetables we eat. Masticating juicers remove most of the fiber from the fruits and vegetables you juice making it easier for your body to absorb more of the nutrients. It should be noted that centrifugal juicers also remove most of the fiber as well.
How to Compare Juicers
When comparing juicers there are several things to consider. First of all, a masticating juicer is going to make the healthiest juice and make more of it from the same amount of produce however the cheapest cold press juicers are going to be much more expensive than the cheapest centrifugal juicer.
The juicing process is typically going to be faster with a centrifugal juicer, they operate at faster speeds and usually have a wider feeding tube meaning less cutting of your fruits and vegetables.
Clean up is often easier with a centrifugal juicer, this is in part because many of the best cold press juicers can double as food processors allowing you to make things such as soups, pasta and butters. However the more a juicer can do means that it will typically have more parts and be more complicated to use.
Centrifugal juicers are going to be louder, the high speed motor and blade can be fairly noisy, a slow press juicer will be much quieter simply because of its slow speed.
Price is of course another big factor to consider. If you are just looking for a cheap juicer you will find there are plenty of centrifugal juicers that will get the job done. If you are willing to spend more then you will find centrifugal juicers that do a much better job than their cheaper counterparts. For the same price as the more expensive centrifugal juicers you can purchase a good quality cold press juicer which may be more complicated to use and take longer to create juice but will give you a much healthier juice.
What are the Best Juicers to Buy
The best juicer for you is going to be a juicer that meets your needs and fits your lifestyle. If you don’t have a lot of time to juice, don’t have a lot of money to spend on a top rated cold press juicer, don’t plan on making juicing a regular part of your diet or don’t know how much you will even enjoy juicing then a cheap centrifugal juicer may be the right choice for you. If you are a little more serious about juicing but don’t have a lot of cash to spend then a mid-range centrifugal juicer may be your best choice.
However, if you know you want the best juicer and the healthiest juice then spending the money on a high quality cold press juicer is definitely something you need to consider.
