Choosing the Right Juicer
What is the RIGHT Juicer
If you are new to juicing and looking to purchase a new juicer things can get a bit overwhelming. There are several different types of juicers available and many different brands and models to choose from.
How do you decide what is going to be the right juicer for you? I don’t mean what is the best juicer, but the right juicer, for you and what your juicing needs are going to be. There can be a big price difference when distinguishing between the two.
Cold Press Juicer: The Best Juicer
The best juicer is going to be a cold press juicer, there is no doubt about that fact. A cold pressed juicer, also called a slow or masticating juicer, simply makes a more healthy and nutritious juice while using less produce to make the same amount of juice as other types of juicers.
Is a masticating juicer going to be the right juicer for you? Perhaps, but you need to consider several things before making that decision. A cold press juicer is going to cost you a good deal more than other types of juicers but may be more than what you need.
The last thing you want to do is spend more money than you need to for a juicer that in truth you may not even end up using. The fact is, juicing can be a big commitment. The cost of fresh fruits and vegetables and the time needed to make your healthy juice can end up keeping some people from sticking to a juicing regime and quite possibly giving up on juicing all together.
However, if you are serious about wanting to juice or at least would like to find out a little more on what things you should consider before buying a juicer then read on.
Choosing a Juicer: What You Should Consider
Is it Easy for You to Use
You want to get a juicer that is going to be easy for you to assemble and disassemble as well as clean. If the juicer has to many parts or is to hard to clean then there is a good chance you will end up not using it.
Keep in mind that though a juicer with fewer parts may be easier to use it will most likely mean that it only has basic functions. This may be alright for you however if you want a juicer that can perform other tasks such as making pasta or butters then you may need to make a compromise and choose a juicer that will have more parts.
Another feature that can make a difference in how easy the juicer is to use is the feeding tube. The larger the feeding tube the less time you have to spend cutting your fruits and veggies into small pieces. Additionally a large feeding tube will help prevent clog up and ultimately produce a larger amount of juice from the same amount of work.
The speed at which the juicer can make juice is of course an important factor when choosing a juicer unfortunately it is one in which what we want may not be what is best. I think all of us would like to be able to get our juicing done as quick as possible but the problem is the more speed the juicer produces the higher the temperatures that are created from the process. This means more vitamins and nutrients are lost during the juicing process.
This is one of the biggest reasons that a cold press juicer is the best kind of juicer when it comes to getting the most from your juice.
Initial Price and Long Term Costs
Although price is an important factor when choosing a juicer you need to consider more than just the initial cost of the machine itself. A masticating juicer works much more efficiently at getting the juice from your fruits and vegetables compared to a centrifugal juicer.
This means that if you decide on a centrifugal juicer you will end up using more produce to create the same amount of juice. If you plan on juicing on a regular basis this could end up costing you more in the long run then paying the higher cost for a slow juicer to begin with.
The Noise Level
You may not think noise to be to much of a concern however because juicing does take some time it can be a bit annoying to not be able to hear your family try and talk to you or miss your favorite tv show because you are juicing
A centrifugal juicer is going to be much louder than a cold press juicer, in most cases you can actually hold a conversation while using a masticating juicer.
This is an area that really needs a lot of consideration. Although a larger machine is of course going to require more counter and storage space a smaller machine is going to have a lower juicing capacity meaning it may take you longer to get your desired amount of juice.
This really should be one of your main priorities when looking at juicers. First of all if a juicer doesn’t have a warranty or has a very minimal warranty then this could be sign that it is an inferior product. Secondly, some of the higher quality juicers are quite expensive and you don’t want to take a chance that you end up with a juicer that just happens to have a factory defect.
Of course any of your higher quality models will come with a good warranty, typically lifetime warranties. On the other hand many of your lower cost models will only have a limited warranty, this is pretty standard however just make sure that what ever juicer you do choose has some type of warranty.
Leafy greens are about the hardest thing for a juicer to handle and only the most powerful juicers are able to do a good job juicing your leafy greens. Typically you are going to want a juicer that has at least 400 watts of power for effectively juicing your leafy green vegetables. However this is going to mean that you will be using a good bit more electricity than with lower powered models.
When looking at power you again are going to have to really think about how much you plan on juicing, a more powerful model will mean higher electrical bills but will also mean that over time you will save by using less produce to get the same amount of juice from a less powerful model.
Juicing can be an expensive endeavor but one that is well worth it in the health benefits alone. Before making a decision on which juicer is going to be the best juicer for you take some time to really consider how serious you are about juicing and how often you really think you will use your new juicer.
There is no point in investing in a top quality cold press juicer if it is going to just sit in the closet most of the time.
