Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor Review
Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain Review
Breville BJE200XL Centrifugal Juicer
The Breville BJE200XL centrifugal juicer is a more compact and less powerful version of its bigger brother the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000 Watt Juice Extractor.
Being smaller and less powerful is not the only difference between the two juicers. The 800JEXL has two speeds, 6,500 and 13,000 Rpm while the BJE200XL only has one speed, 14,000 Rpm. This may not sound like an issue but the slower speed is better for several reasons.
With a juicer, a slower speed is going to work better with leafy green vegetables as well as soft fruits. Additionally a slower speed is going to create less heat thus creating less oxidation and a healthier juice. Another problem is that the faster the cutting disks are spinning the more air that is going to be sucked in causing more frothiness.
Is the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain Inferior
Does that mean the Breville BJE200XL is an inferior juicer?
Not at all, unfortunately, these are all issues that typically come with most every centrifugal juicer you will find today. Of course the 800JEXL does somewhat better with these issues when using the slower speed but will still have the same problems when compared to juice from a cold press juicer.
However it isn’t really fair to compare the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain with either the 800JEXL or a cold press juicer. So how does this juicer perform compared to its equal counterparts?
Fortunately the BJE200XL centrifugal juicer comes with all the same great features as the 800JEXL.
- A Titanium-reinforced cutting disc
- Large pulp container
- 3 inch wide feed chute with cutting knife inside
- Locking mechanism prevents this from turning on without it being locked in place
- Juice jug with froth separator
- Comes with a handy cleaning brush for easy clean up
- Dishwasher safe
- Fast speed makes juicing quicker
- Few parts makes this model easy to use
- The large chute means less cutting of fruits and vegetables
- Durable and stable
- Extremely noisy
- The fast speed tends to suck in a lot of air creating frothy juice
- because of the air and heat the juice can not be stored very long
- Leafy greans and soft fruits will be troublesome
- Minimal 1 year warranty
- Lack of customer service
The Good Versus the Bad
The Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain operates at quick speeds, this is wonderful for being able to make your juice quickly however it is terrible when it comes to making not only the healthiest juice but for getting the same amount of juice from the same amount of produce when you compare it to a slow press juicer.
However being that this is going to be an issue with all centrifugal juicers you can’t fault the BJE200XL for that. We just want you to be aware of the failing of these types of juicers.
Because this juicer has few parts that need to be removed and cleaned it is a very simple juicer to assemble, disassemble and clean. This is great for those who are new to juicing and don’t want to feel overwhelmed when it comes time to start juicing.
Because it has a large wide mouth feeding chute you will spend less time cutting up your fruits and vegetables. This will make the whole juicing process go a lot quicker and make it more likely for you to continue using your juicer. A cold press juicer takes much longer to create the same amount of juice and this can be frustrating for some folks.
The locking mechanism that prevents the juicer from turning on unless locked is a wonderful feature for those new to juicing. It really adds to the simplicity of use and helps keep both you and the juicer safe.
The fact that the parts that need to be cleaned are all dishwasher safe and the handy tools that come with the BJE200XL really make it easy to use and easy to clean.
The problems we see with the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain are for the most part the same problems you will experience with all centrifugal juicers. Namely high heat and more air being introduced into the juice. Additionally the blade type system just isn’t as efficient at juicing all fruits and vegetables but most notably leafy greens and soft fruits
However, problems that are unique to this juicer or brand are the fact that there is only a 1 year warranty and from what we could gather their customer service is none to helpful and often times extremely rude.
We don’t like the 1 year warranty a bit, most juicer models will have a much longer warranty some even being as long as 15 years. With the extremely high end models you will usually get a life time warranty.
Customer service is an important part of any company and although we have not had any personal experience with Breville’s customer service, we have read many reports of rudeness and representatives hanging up on customers.
Although we really like the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000 Watt Juice Extractor and have named it our top pick for best mid-range juicer in 2016 we can’t say the same for this model. Is it a good juicer, the truth is that it is a great juicer but mainly for a person who is new to juicing, wants something that is going to get the job done quickly, is smaller and easy to use and is reasonably priced.
However, if you are serious about juicing and want to get the most out of the things you juice then this is not the model for you. You will get a far superior juice and use less produce to get the same amount of juice if you use a cold press juicer. At the same time, a centrifugal juicer that has two speeds such as the 800JEXL is going to do a better job as well, just not as good as a slow juicer.
If you are looking for an entry level juicer that has great features at a great price then we do highly suggest this model. If you know you are going to be a serious juicer then we suggest looking at other models more specifically cold pressed juicers.
